COLOURS AVAILABLE

PRODUCT DETAIL

Appearance: High gloss.
Spreading Rate: 6 – 8 m²/l dependent on surface texture and porosity.
Solids: ± 50% by mass and ± 30% by volume.
Density: ± 1.00 kg/litre.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: 2 coats at 40 µm per coat minimum.
Viscosity: ± 65 Kµ
Life expectancy: 7 Years for specified interior and exterior applications.
Flash Point: 45°C

Storage:

  • Keep containers properly sealed.
  • Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

TECHNICAL DATASHEET

Features

  • Durable: Glossy finish resists scuffing and marring.
  • Scrubable: Withstands scrubbing with detergents.
  • Good adhesion: Can be applied to previously coated, sound surfaces.
  • Ease of application: Viscosity designed to give easy brushing.
  • Can be tinted to specific colour requirements.

Intended Usages

  • Ideal for use as a final coat for correctly prepared and primed interior and exterior cement plaster, metal, wood or previously painted surfaces in sound condition.

Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
  • Method: Roller (use short nap roller – mohair), brush or airless spray gun.
  • Thinning: Not recommended. ProGold Mineral Turpentine if required to maximum 10%.
  • Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with ProGold Mineral Turpentine.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00.
  • Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
  • If possible away from direct sunlight.

Drying time:
Initial – 4 hours, Hard – 16 hours at 23°C.
Note:  Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Recoating time:
16 hours.

Requirements:
Two coats.

Surface Preparations

Surfaces must be sound, clean and dry (moisture content below 15%) before painting. Plaster sand to comply with SABS 1090 requirements. Plaster mix must have a minimum thickness of 10mm, free from soft and friable material and comply with SABS 0164-1 for strength (MPA).

1. New work:
1. 1 Cement Plaster: 1 coat Prominent Select Plaster Primer and 1 coat Prominent Universal Undercoat.
1. 2 Gypsum Plaster :1 coat Prominent Select Plaster Primer and 1 coat Prominent Universal Undercoat.
1. 3 Metal (new): Clean surface with ProGold Multi Surface Etch Cleaner with abrasive pad to remove any oil, paint and apply 1 coat Prominent Machinery Enamel Primer – Zinc phosphate or Prominent Rust Primer or Prominent Ultra Prime.
1. 4 Metal (rusted) Remove rust. Clean surface with ProGold Multi Surface Etch Cleaner with abrasive pad, rinse with water and allow drying. Apply 2 coats Prominent Rust Primer and 1 coat Prominent Universal Undercoat.
1. 5 Wood 2 coats Prominent Wood Primer.
1. 6 Aluminium Clean surface with ProGold Multi Surface Etch Cleaner with abrasive pad, rinse with water and allow drying. Apply 2 coats Prominent Etch Primer or Prominent Ultra Prime.

2. Redecorating:
2.1 Gloss enamel Sand well, clean and apply Prominent Premium Universal Undercoat.
2.2 Sound matt emulsion paint Clean well and apply directly.
2.3 Sound sheen emulsion paint Sand down and apply directly.
2.4 Poor condition surfaces Strip down and treat as new work.

Limitations

  • Cannot be applied to un-primed surfaces.
  • Apply only under specified conditions.
  • Colour changes generally first require a coat of Prominent Universal Undercoat.
  • Cannot be applied over poor quality undercoats or directly onto gypsum plaster.
  • Very cold conditions will lengthen the drying time.
  • Moisture content must not exceed 15%.
  • Adhere to spreading rates and recoating times to prevent wrinkling.
  • To ensure a consistent colour appearance, ensure that batch numbers on all the containers are the same. Where the batch numbers differ, intermix before use.

Safety

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
  • Wear a suitable dust mask if sanding.
  • In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
  • If product is ingested drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
  • Do not smoke while painting.
  • Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria. MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.
  • To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.

Tint Bases

  • The tint base containers are only filled to levels which are specific for each tint base to allow the calculated volume of colourant to be added in order to achieve the volume indicated on the container after tinting.
  • Tint bases and colourants are unfinished products which should not be used on their own.
  • Only once the prescribed colourant is added to the specific tint base will the finished product comply with the technical features and related information as set out in this TDS.

Colourant to be used:
Prominent colourants are lead free specifically formulated for use with Prominent Pro-Matic tinting system. ICC colourants which are lead free using only Prominent Paints supported formuations on Largo 2000.

Tint Bases:
Controlled White and Clear Tint Base.
