Spreading Rate: 6m² – 10m²/litre, dependent on surface texture and porosity.
Solids: ± 54% by mass and ± 35% by volume.
Density: ± 1,27 kg/litre.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: 2 coats at 40µm per coat minimum.
Viscosity: ± 110 Kµ.
Flash Point: Non-flammable.
Storage:
- Keep containers properly sealed.
- Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

Features
- Non-yellowing: Unlike alkyd based paints, whites remain white.
- Water-based: Easy cleaning, low odour, non-toxic and non-yellowing.
- Good washability: Resists formation of shiny patches on cleaning.
- Good adhesion: Can be applied to previously coated, sound surfaces.
- Good UV Resistance: Normal fading of colours can take place over time.
- Lead free and low VOC, reduces the odour associated with painting indoors.
- Can be tinted to specific colour requirements.
- Matt finish, thus not highlighting imperfections like a sheen or gloss paint.
- Good stain resistance for a matt finish coating.
- Mar and scratch resistant.
Intended Usages
- Formulated for surfaces such as ceilings, wood, steel and areas of your home where high traffic occurs such as passage walls and bedroom walls. Sound previously painted surfaces.
- Correctly prepared and primed interior and exterior unglazed bricks and cement plaster free of hairline cracks.
- Correctly prepared and primed gypsum plaster and fibre cement boards.
Application Details
- Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
- Method: Roller, brush or airless spray gun.
- Thinning: Not recommended.
- Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with water.
Conditions:
- Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
- Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10:00 and 16:00.
- Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
- If possible away from direct sunlight.
Drying time:
Touch dry – 30 minutes.
Note: Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).
Recoating time:
4 hours at 23°C.
Requirements:
Two coats.
Surface Preparations
Surfaces must be sound, clean and dry (moisture content below 15%) before painting. Plaster sand to comply with SABS 1090 requirements. Plaster mix must have a minimum thickness of 10mm, free from soft and friable material and comply with SABS 0164-1 for strength (MPA).
Exterior Cement plaster:
- Prime with one coat Prominent Dampcure or Prominent Plaster Primer.
Interior Cement plaster:
- Prime with one coat Prominent Wall Primer or Prominent Plaster Primer or Prominent Select Water-based Plaster Primer.
Gypsum plaster/board:
- Prime with one coat Prominent Plaster Primer.
Fibre cement:
- Prime with one coat Prominent Dampcure.
Gloss paint and Eggshell Enamel:
- Sand well, clean with ProGold GP Cleaner diluted 1:10 with water and an abrasive pad, rinse and allow to dry before applying one coat Prominent Universal Undercoat.
Sheen emulsion paint:
- Sand well, clean with ProGold GP Cleaner diluted 1:10 with water and an abrasive pad, rinse and allow to dry before applying one coat Prominent Universal Undercoat.
Matt emulsion paint:
- Clean with ProGold GP Cleaner diluted 1:10 with water and an abrasive pad, rinse and allow to dry before applying one coat Prominent Universal Undercoat.
Powdery surfaces:
- High-pressure water jet or clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1:10) and an abrasive pad, rinse with water and allow to dry.
- Apply one coat Prominent Dampcure or Prominent Surface Restorer.
Poor condition surfaces, i.e. excessive peeling:
- Strip down and treat as new work.
Limitations
- The low VOC compliance is applicable on white, pastel tinting base and selected standard colours.
- Cannot be applied in cold and moist conditions or applied over poor quality undercoats or directly onto gypsum plaster.
- Not suitable for use in showers.
- Cannot be used for bridging hairline cracks or accommodate excessive movement, i.e. Hairline cracking or application onto flexible coatings like textured coats and waterproofing systems.
- Spot-touching up over large areas will be noticeable. To ensure a consistent colour appearance, ensure that batch numbers on all the containers are the same. Where the batch numbers differ, intermix before use.
Safety
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
- Wear a suitable dust mask if sanding.
- In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
- If product is ingested drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
- Do not smoke while painting.
- Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria. MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.
- To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.
- If the surface to be painted is asbestos then the preparation, cleaning and/or removal of broken asbestos sheeting needs to be done in compliance to the Asbestos Regulations, 2001 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993. Tint Bases
The tint base containers are only filled to levels which are specific for each tint base to allow the calculated volume of colourant to be added in order to achieve the volume indicated on the container after tinting. Tint bases and colourants are unfinished products which should not be used on their own. Only once the prescribed colourant is added to the specific tint base will the finished product comply with the technical features and related information as set out in this TDS. 4. The calculated max VOC compliance < 16g/L is only applicable to product tinted from Pastel Base, excluding Clear Base.
Colourant to be used:
Prominent colourants are lead free specifically formulated for use with Prominent Pro-Matic tinting system. ICC colourants which are lead free using only Prominent supported formulations on Largo 2000.
