PRODUCT DETAIL

Appearance: High gloss.
Spreading Rate: 10 – 12 m²/l dependent on surface texture and porosity.
Solids: ± 68% by mass and ± 40% by volume.
Density: ± 1,13 kg/litre.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: 2 coats at 40µm per coat minimum.
Viscosity: ± 65 Kµ.
Flash Point: 45°C.

Storage:

  • Ensure containers are properly sealed.
  • Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

TECHNICAL DATASHEET

Features

  • High opacity: Good hiding for a high gloss paint.
  • Durable: Glossy finish resists scuffing and marring.
  • Scrubable: Withstands scrubbing with detergents.
  • UV resistant: Resists chalking on outside exposure.
  • Ease of application: Viscosity designed to give easy brushing.
  • Can be tinted to specific colour requirements.
  • 100% lead free.

Intended Usages

  • Final coat for correctly prepared and primed interior and exterior cement plaster, metal, wood or previously painted surfaces in sound condition.

Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
  • Method: Roller (short nap/mohair), brush or spray.
  • Thinning: ProGold Mineral Turpentine if required to maximum of 10%.
  • Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with ProGold Mineral Turpentine.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C. Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10:00 and 16:00.
  • Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.

Drying time:
Initial – 4 hours, Hard dry – 16 hours.
Note: Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Recoating time:
16 hours.

Requirements:
For new work or change in colour, apply two coats.

Surface Preparations
Cement plaster:

  • Apply 1 coat Prominent Dampcure and 1 coat Prominent Premium Universal Undercoat.

Gypsum plaster:

  • Apply 1 coat Prominent Plaster Primer and 1 coat Prominent Premium Universal Undercoat.

Metal (new):

  • Clean surface with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1:5) and abrasive pads to remove any oil, rinse with running water and allow drying.
  • Apply 1 coat Prominent Machinery Enamel Primer or Prominent Rust Primer and 1 coat Prominent Premium Universal Undercoat.

Metal (rusted):

  • Remove rust, clean surface with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1:5) and abrasive pads.
  • Rinse with water and allow drying.
  • Apply two coats Prominent Rust Primer and 1 coat Prominent Premium Universal Undercoat.

Wood:

  • 2 coats Prominent Wood Primer.

Aluminium:

  • 2 coats Prominent Etch Primer or Prominent Ultra Prime.

Gloss enamel:

  • Sand down and apply 1 coat Prominent Premium Universal Undercoat.

Sound matt emulsion paint:

  • Clean and apply directly.

Sound sheen emulsion paint:

  • Sand down and apply directly.

Poor condition surface:

  • Strip down and treat as new work.

Limitations

  • Cannot be applied to unprimed surfaces.
  • Apply only under specified conditions.
  • Colour changes generally first require a coat of Prominent Premium Universal Undercoat.
  • Very cold conditions will lengthen the drying time.
  • Moisture content must not exceed 15%.
  • Adhere to spreading rates and recoating times to prevent wrinkling.
  • To ensure a consistent appearance ensure that batch numbers on all the containers are the same.
  • Where the batch numbers differ, intermix before use.

Safety

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
  • In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner.
  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
  • If product is ingested drink plenty of water or milk.
  • Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
  • Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria.
  • MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.
  • To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.

Tint Bases
The tint base containers are only filled to levels which are specific for each tint base to allow the calculated volume of colourant to be added in order to achieve the volume indicated on the container after tinting. Tint bases and colourants are unfinished products which should not be used on their own. Only once the prescribed colourant is added to the specific tint base will the finished product comply with the technical features and related information as set out in this TDS.

Colourant to be used:
Prominent colourants are lead free specifically formulated for use with Prominent Pro-Matic tinting system. ICC colourants which are lead free using only Prominent supported formulations on Largo 2000.

Tint Bases:
Pastel Base and Clear Base.

  • In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
  • If product is ingested drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
  • Do not smoke while painting.

  • To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.
  • If the surface to be painted is asbestos then the preparation, cleaning and/or removal of broken asbestos sheeting needs to be done in compliance to the Asbestos Regulations, 2001 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993.
