Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir thoroughly with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
  • Method:  Roller, brush.
  • Thinning: Only when specified on a Prominent approved Warranty Agreement Specification otherwise not recommended.
  • Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with water.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00.
  • Ideally, apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
  • If possible away from direct sunlight.

Drying time:
Touch dry – 30 minutes.
Note:
higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying times (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Recoating time:
  4 hours at 23°C.

No of coats /Requirements:

Without membrane: Two coats.

No of coats /Requirements:
 With membrane:
Five coats i.e:  1st coat (primer/bonding coat):
Neutron Neuklad thinned 10% with water, at ± 2-4m² per litre, allow drying. 2nd coat (bedding coat): Neutron Neuklad un-thinned at a spreading rate of ± 2m² per litre ,while wet bed the polyester membrane into the coating until completely saturated.
3rd coat (saturation):  Neutron Neuklad un-thinned at a spreading rate of ± 2m² per litre.
4th and 5th coat:
Apply 2 full coats of Neutron Neuklad to complete the system at a ± 4 m² per litre per coat.

Surface Preparations
Exterior cement plaster:

  • Prime with one coat Neutron Alkali Resistant Sealer.

Cement plaster with rising damp:

  • Providing the moisture is below 40% apply 1 coat Prominent Dampcure thinned 20% with ProGold Mineral Turpentine and one coat undiluted with 24 hours drying time between coats.
  • Only then apply 1 coat Neutron Alkali Resistant Sealer.

Cement plaster:

  • Prime with one coat Neutron Alkali Resistant Sealer.

Gypsum plaster/board:

  • Prime with one coat Neutron Alkali Resistant Sealer.

Fibre cement:

  • Prime with one coat Neutron Alkali Resistant Sealer.

Chalky surfaces:

  • Wire brush/high-pressure water jet the surface and apply one coat Neutron Alkali Resistant Sealer.

Sound matt emulsion painted surfaces:

  • Clean down with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1: 5), allow drying.
  • If sound apply direct.

Sound gloss or sheen painted surfaces:

  • Sand down to a matt finish and then wash with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water solution (1: 5).
  • Allow drying and apply direct.

Painted surface in poor condition, i.e. extensive peeling:

  • Remove to sound surface and treat as new work.

It is advisable to test the compatibility of coatings when redecorating is involved, i.e. paint a small section and then check the adhesion after 24 hours by applying a strip of masking tape and attempting to rip the paint off.

Limitations

  • The low VOC compliance is applicable on White and Pastel Tinting Base for batches manufactured from 1 September 2010 onwards.
  • Neutron Neuklad can only be applied to specified substrates and recommended conditions.
  • Do not apply to surfaces where the temperature is less than 10°C.
  • Cannot be applied in cold and moist conditions.
  • Spot touching up over large areas will be noticeable.
  • Special spraying equipment is necessary for spray applications due to fibre content in Neutron Neuklad.
  • To ensure colour consistency of the applied coating, check that the batch numbers are the same on all containers.
  • Only Neuklad approved colours will be covered under the Neuklad Paint film Guarantee.
  • The Neuklad Paint Film Guarantee only covers the application of Neuklad to façade surfaces.
