  • Good penetration: Dissolves binder, penetrates porous surfaces and seals them off
  • Good adhesion: To porous, correctly prepared chalky surfaces
  • 100% lead free

Intended Usages

  • Superior primer for new interior and exterior cement plaster.
  • Primer for gypsum plaster, hardboard, gypsum boards, rhinolite and glasstone.

Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use
  • Method: Roller & brush
  • Thinning: ProGold Mineral Turpentine
  • Cleaning: ProGold Mineral Turpentine. Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10:00 and 16:00.
  • Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
  • If possible away from direct sunlight.

Drying time:
Touch dry 4 hours at 23°C.

Note: Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Overcoating time:
16h at 23ºC

Full cure:
21 days at 23ºC

Requirements:

1 coat.

Surface Preparations
Surfaces must be sound, clean and dry (moisture content below 15%) before painting. Plaster sand to comply with SABS 1090 requirements. Plaster mix must have a minimum thickness of 10mm, free from soft and friable material and comply with SABS 0164-1 for strength (MPA).

1. New work:
1. 1 Cement plaster Apply directly.
1. 2 Gypsum plaster Apply directly.
1. 3 Gypsum board, hardboard Apply directly.

2. Redecorating:
In all cases it is necessary to perform a cross hatch adhesion test to ensure proper binding of the substrate took place before the final finishing application commences.
2.1. Chalky PVA: Remove chalkiness by high pressure water washer 200bar/2900psi with a rotating nozzle or ProGold General Purpose Cleaner diluted 1:10 with water and a nylon scrubbing brush. Rinse with clean water, allow drying and then apply a coat of Prominent Select Plaster Primer.
2.2. Lime wash: Remove chalkiness by high pressure water washer 200bar/2900psi with a rotating nozzle or ProGold General Purpose Cleaner diluted 1:10 with water and a nylon scrubbing brush. Rinse with clean water, allow drying and then apply a coat of Prominent Select Plaster Primer diluted 20% with ProGold Mineral Turpentine. Apply second coat Prominent Select Plaster Primer undiluted.
2.3. Previously painted: Ensure all traces of flaking and peeling paint has been removed, high pressure water washer 200bar/2900psi with a rotating nozzle or ProGold General Purpose Cleaner diluted 1:10 with water and a nylon scrubbing brush. Rinse with clean water.

Limitations

  • Efficiency with respect to penetrating and bonding on a specific surface must be tested on a small surface before proceeding with the remaining surface area.
  • Prominent Select Plaster Primer is not a cure for damp.
  • Can only be used on absorbent surfaces.
