TECHNICAL DATASHEET

Features

  • Rapid drying: Can be accelerated with heat.
  • Good adhesion.
  • Overcoat after 2 hours, but not longer than 6 hours.
  • Good colour and gloss retention.
  • 100% lead free.

Intended Usages

  • Spray and dip application on suitably prepared and primed mild steel.

Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
  • Method: Dip or airless spray.
  • Thinning: ProGold Lacquer Thinners or ProGold Industrial Thinners, 10-25% maximum for spray applications.
  • Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with ProGold Lacquer Thinners or ProGold Industrial Thinners.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C. Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00.
  • Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.

Drying time:
Surface dry – 15 minutes, Hard dry – 4-6 hours, Through dry – 48 hours at 23°C with a relative humidity of 85% or less.
Note:  Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Recoating time: 2 hours to 6 hours maximum at 23°C.
Requirements: Two coats.

Surface Preparations
All surfaces should be rubbed down with fine abrasive paper. Degrease, using ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1: 5) and scouring pad. Rinse with water and leave to dry. Prime all bare surfaces with the appropriate Prominent primer suited for the substrate.

Enamel paint:

  • Strip off and treat as new work.

Machinery Enamel:

  • Abrade well to matt finish and recoat.

Limitations

  • Thick coatings take longer to through dry and thus affect the recommended recoating times.
  • Wrinkling can occur if recoating times are not adhered to.
  • 14 Days curing time is required for touch-ups if the 6 hour maximum recoatable time has elapsed.
  • Prominent Machinery Enamel Clear Coat cannot be used for tinting.
  • Applying thick coatings can, due to the nature of the product, result in adhesion failure.
  • Prominent Machinery Enamel Matt Black cannot be overcoated with Prominent Machinery Enamel Clear Coat.
  • Prominent Machinery Enamel clear tint base can only be tinted with Prominent Pro-Matic tinting system.
  • Spray applications with Prominent Machinery Enamel Silver may give off more silver residue compared to a brush application in direct contact situations. For a residue-free finish overcoat with 1-2 coats of Prominent Machinery Enamel Clear Coat.
  • To ensure a consistent appearance ensure that batch numbers on all the containers are the same. Where the batch numbers differ, intermix before use.

Tint bases and colourants are unfinished products which should not be used on their own. Only once the prescribed colourant is added to the specific tint base will the finished product comply with the technical features and related information as set out in this TDS.
